The project “Renewable Energy Sources for a Sustainable Ukraine” (R2U) is an initiative of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, executed on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) and with support from the International Climate Initiative.
R2U has contributed to strengthening the energy independence of communities, enhancing their resilience in wartime conditions, and creating prerequisites for sustainable development.
Key Results
One of the key project tasks was to support civil society in the energy transition process, which would contribute to reducing environmental impact and adapting to climate change. The project was implemented by a consortium of civil organizations (Ekoclub, Ekodia, Energy Act Foundation, RePower Charitable Foundation).
R2U included key stages such as selecting municipalities wishing to receive renewable energy installations, preparing project documentation, engaging contractors for construction, and quality control at all stages. Advocacy campaigns were also conducted to create a favorable environment for renewable energy sources in communities.
