For the third consecutive year, we have been asking ourselves about the significance of our work, especially when some staff members of Ecoaction are at the front lines. However, the reforms taking place in Ukraine define its future, and our goal is to make the right to a clean environment an inseparable part of these changes.
We persuade policymakers to adopt environmentally and climate-friendly decisions, such as the Law on the Basic Principles of State Climate Policy, which aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. We highlight initiatives that pose threats to sustainable development, such as the construction of new reactors at the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant, which contradicts the principles of safe and decentralized energy.
Last year, Ecoaction participated in four working groups aimed at shaping Ukraine’s negotiation positions for EU membership in the areas of environment, energy, agriculture, and regional policy. Meanwhile, at the local level, we support energy decentralization: in 2024, under the initiative of Ecoaction, two solar power stations were established in Novovolynsk and Sheptytsky. We also deepened cooperation with farmers and advisors who implement ecological practices in agriculture.
Changes require an expert approach, so we invest time in research. Last year, Ecoaction prepared a study about green reconstruction of the housing sector, the impact of the Russian war on the climate, analytics regarding the completion of nuclear power units at Khmelnytsky NPP, report on the activities of international companies in the Russian market, and much more.
Above all, our community is our greatest support. We are grateful to the volunteers who not only help but also independently lead important areas of work, such as the map of potential environmental damage due to the war, or the updating of the Land Matrix Initiative database. Special thanks to Ecoaction Friends for their regular financial support — this is the foundation of our independence and the ability to attract additional resources for even greater impact.
