Recently, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the draft law No. 11392, which provides for the purchase of Russian equipment in Bulgaria for the completion of the 3rd and 4th units of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.
What do experts, politicians, and the public say about the plans for the completion of the units? We will discuss this during the panel discussion.
All registered participants will receive a link to the ZOOM meeting the day before the event. The language of the event will be Ukrainian with simultaneous translation into English.
Speakers:
Moderator: Artem Kolesnyk, energy policy specialist at the Ecoaction NGO.
During the event, we will present the results of a sociological study regarding the attitudes of Ukrainians towards nuclear energy, and we will also discuss the key technological, economic, and environmental risks of completing the 3rd and 4th units of the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
Let us remind you that the construction of these units began back in the 1980s, and their completion involves the use of structures that have remained unfinished for 30 years. The cost estimates of the project are based on outdated technical and economic justifications from 2018 and are likely significantly underestimated. Also, the law on the completion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP units has not yet been adopted, so any construction at the moment is illegal. Read more about the project’s issues here.
